We aim to treat each tenant individually, appreciating the uniqueness of their business.
The Hitchin Property Trust Ltd is an independent Landlord based in Hitchin, Hertfordshire with a mixed portfolio of commercial and residential properties. Founded in 1937 by John Ray to hold and manage the growing portfolio of his building firm John Ray Ltd., the company has remained wholly owned and managed by the family, though now has considerably more shareholders! As John Ray Ltd. gradually stopped building new properties, an activity that had significantly slowed down since the war, The Hitchin Property Trust Ltd. continued to invest in high street properties diverging away from Hitchin and North Hertfordshire eastwards towards East Anglia. Whilst the majority of the portfolio remains in Hitchin, over time it has expanded to include the towns of Bury St Edmunds, Colchester, St Albans, Buntingford, Ware, Royston and Baldock.
The Company manages a portfolio of over 300 commercial and residential units. 200 of these are owned by The Hitchin Property Trust with the remainder being owned by our associated companies; The Willian Trust Ltd.; Keysheath Investment Company Ltd.; and John Ray Ltd.
Our focus has always been to maintain the balance between independents that give towns their vibrant identity, and nationwide chains that help anchor the High Street.
We aim to create long lasting relationships with our tenants and are proud to say some of them have been with us upwards of 40 years. The relationship between Landlord and Tenant is important to us and we aim to treat each tenant individually, appreciating the uniqueness of their business. With a small number of employees we all work together to achieve long lasting relationships with our tenants and added value for the shareholders. We believe the two elements of this do not have to work against each other but that by supporting our tenants and the towns we serve we can achieve both.
