H-Town Pounds

Hitchin BID and local landlord launch H-Town Pounds

The 18th of October will see over eighty independent businesses in Hitchin town centre welcome H-Town Pounds, a new shopping voucher to help boost local trade. An initiative launched by Hitchin Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with Hitchin Property Trust (HPT), the vouchers are a fantastic gift for friends and family and an opportunity for local residents to show their support for Hitchin’s independent shops and services.

Tom Hardy, Hitchin Town Centre Manager explains, ‘With the H-Town Pounds you can treat your local friends and family to enjoy all that Hitchin’s independents offers. From a special meal out to a thoughtful gift or beauty treatment, Hitchin’s independents offer a great shopping experience’.

To kick-start the scheme, in addition to sponsoring the initiative, HPT are gifting £50 worth of vouchers to each of their residential tenants. Alex Roberton, Managing Director of HPT explains: ‘HPT recognises that it’s been a difficult year for both our commercial and residential tenants here in Hitchin. H-Town Pounds is a brilliant boost for Hitchin’s independents and we’re only too happy to support the scheme.’
Available in denominations of £5, £10, and £20 the eye-catching vouchers can be purchased from Waitrose in Hitchin, at the Hitchin Information office and online. Participating businesses will be displaying prominent window stickers. Shoppers can visit the website at www.htownpounds.co.uk to find out more and read the full terms and conditions.

On Hermitage Road, one of Hitchin’s main shopping streets, local business manager Brian Failes of Angell’s HealthCare has been one of the first businesses to sign up: ‘Any initiative like this is a good thing for local businesses. Why wouldn’t you sign up?’. Daisy Whitear from Wilbury Clinic is similarly positive: ‘It’s a great idea. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the clinic. Anything that encourages people to come in is wonderful.’ Around the corner at Hitchin’s newest book store, Next Page Books Liz Tye explains: “It’s great for independent shops. At Christmas you don’t always know what to buy, so the vouchers are a perfect gift and we welcome everyone to spend theirs here at Next Page Books.”
